VOHE Superintendent – D Lower Vacancy at Modikwa Platinum Mine

Modikwa Platinum Mine is looking for a highly skilled VOHE Superintendent (D Lower) to join their team. The successful candidate will report to the VOHE Leader and will be appointed in line with the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act.

Role Overview

The VOHE Superintendent has legal accountability in terms of Section 12.1 of the Mine Health and Safety Act. The primary focus of this role is to manage and coordinate the overall Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems, programmes, and department. You will provide specialist expertise to ensure a safe and healthy work environment while minimizing risk and adverse publicity.

Key Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Degree in Occupational Hygiene or related science at NQF Level 6; COM Advanced Certificate in Mine Environment Control NQF Level 6.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years practical experience in the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene field, with at least 5 years specifically in a Mining and/or Concentrating Plant environment.
  • Professional Registration: Occupational Hygiene Technologist certificate with SAIOH; Member of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa and/or registration as an Occupational Hygienist with SAIOH.
  • Technical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of Occupational Health Legislation, Ventilation Engineering Principles, Palladium Hygiene Programme, and Hazard Identification/Risk Assessment.
  • Additional Skills: Computer literacy (MS Office), risk management experience, valid driver’s license, and a valid Certificate of Fitness (Red Ticket).
  • Advantageous: Diploma in Environmental Health, Certificate in Occupational Hygiene, and experience in Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) integration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translate organizational strategies into actionable plans.
  • Develop long-term Occupational Hygiene and Ventilation systems and strategies.
  • Ensure legal compliance and adherence to Occupational Hygiene Codes of Practice.
  • Manage risk, SHE compliance, and emergency preparedness programmes.
  • Coordinate ventilation construction requirements and monitor the condition of hygiene equipment and instruments.
  • Oversee budget compliance and control.
  • Identify suitable training interventions and interpret/act on related legislation.
  • Manage the VOHE / SHE systems and database formulation.

  • Remuneration: The package will be in accordance with the Modikwa package schedules.
  • Medical & Selection: Appointment is subject to being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act. Applicants must be prepared to undergo job-related assessments.
