Miner – C2 Vacancy at Modikwa Platinum Mine

Modikwa Platinum Mine is inviting suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the position of Miner (C2) at the South Two Shaft business unit. The successful candidate will report to the Operations Supervisor – Mining and will act as a crew captain during their shift.

Role Overview

The Miner (C2) holds a legal 2.9.2 appointment in terms of the MHSA and is primarily responsible for the safe and effective blasting of stope panels and development ends. This role carries the responsibility of supervising team activities, ensuring safe working practices, and monitoring resource availability to achieve operational targets. The major focus is the effective operation of stoping panels and development ends throughout each shift.

Key Requirements

  • Education: Grade 10 Numeracy and English literacy.
  • Certifications: Blasting Ticket for Scheduled Mines, Valid First Aid Certificate, and a Valid Medical Certificate (Red Ticket).
  • Experience: At least three to five years of mining experience, of which at least one year must be in a Team Leader capacity.
  • License: Valid Code 8 driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure a safe working area and panel support.
  • Ensure daily quality blasting as called.
  • Mark the face and supervise the drilling procedure.
  • Perform early panel examinations and communicate planned targets to the stoping team.
  • Manage panel cleaning according to set standards and address sub-standard conditions.
  • Optimize material usage and reclamation; handle and prepare explosives safely.
  • Provide motivation, coaching, supervision, and administration for the team.

  • Remuneration: The package will be in accordance with the Modikwa package schedules.
  • Selection: Appointment is subject to being certified medically fit. Applicants must be prepared to undergo job-related assessments.
  • Equity: Preference will be given to qualified applicants from designated groups, with first preference given to women.
